Was Russia right all along?
We have all heard about the so-called conspiracy theories and Russian propaganda that the Ukrainian government supports Neo-Nazi organizations that oppose Russia. It is no secret that Ukraine has been in a civil war for years! Starting with the Maidan and Euromaidan Revolutions in 2013-2014.
Which I might add, our government helped arm and fund. In order to overthrow a pro-Russia government inside of Ukraine. This is no secret. And a topic for another day.
We already know that Vladmir Putin called his operations in Ukraine a “special military operation that would seek the denazification of Ukraine.”
While his claim for THAT being the reason for why he invaded Ukraine may indeed be a lie. I'd venture to say it has a lot to do with the provocation of NATO over the years. And the fact that we train U.S Soldiers on Russia’s border in Latvia. The 173rd Airborne has done it since 2014. A unit that I served 2 tours with, in Afghanistan. And the biological labs that we know for a fact the Department of Defense funded in Ukraine.
But does Ukraine actually have Neo-Nazis that are supported by the Ukrainian government? Yes. Yes, they do. And the mainstream media will run in circles trying to make excuses for them. Or simply claim that it is “Russian Propaganda.”
However, there are media outlets that admit that Ukraine has a “Nazi” problem.
The Right Sector
Right Sector is a Ukranian Nationalist organization that originated in 2013 as a right-wing paramilitary confederation during the Euromaidan revolt in Kyiv. The group became a political party on March 22nd, 2014. Lead by Dmytro Yarosh up until 2015. A commander of the Ukranian Volunteer Army.
On April 5th, 2015, Yarosh was appointed an advisor to the Ukranian Armed Forces.
He left the group on December 27th, 2015. The group is currently run by Andriy Tarasenko.
In December of 2021, The General Staff of the Armed forces of Ukraine refused to disclose any details on cooperation with Yarosh, citing the confidentiality of the information requested.
This is one of many groups that our government helped arm and fund in 2013-2014 to overthrow the pro-Russian government.
The group does indeed identify as a far right-wing nationalist. Neo-fascists and Neo-Nazi. They work in close conjunction with another far-right Neo-Nazi organization. Known as Azov Battalion.
The Right Sector also has a Facebook page that operates in the United States.
Azov Battalion
The Azov Special Operations Detachment is a right-wing neo-Nazi organization unit that was formerly part of the National Guard of Ukraine. Which was originally formed as a volunteer militia in May of 2014. And they have been fighting with Ukranian separatists' forces in the Donbass region since. If you have not heard about Donbass. I urge you to check it out. Being that the Ukrainian Government has utilized organizations like Azov to attack the separatists' citizens of Ukraine since 2013.
As seen in their logo. They use one of the symbols used by the 2nd SS Panzer Division Das Reich. They also have ties to Nazi sympathy. In March of 2015, a spokesman for the regiment states that around 10-20% of the group/unit were neo-Nazis.
The United States Congress blocked military aid to Azov on the grounds of White Supremacy in 2018. With the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2018 https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/PLAW-115publ141/pdf/PLAW-115publ141.pdf
Think about that for a moment. This unit was one of the units that helped overthrow the pro-Russian government in 2013 that our Government claims they had no part in. Yet, in 2018 they stopped funding them even though they weren't funding them?
On November 12th of 2014, Azov was officially incorporated into the National Guard of Ukraine and all of its soldiers have been official soldiers serving in the National Guard since.
Without diving into a deep little rabbit hole. It is in no way shape or form a lie. Or Russian propaganda that Ukraine does indeed have ties to neo-Nazi organizations. They have a whole unit of them dedicated to their National Guard as "official" soldiers.
So why is it suddenly ok to support Nazism? You can call it whatever you like. Sugar-coated shit pile. Or a conspiracy theory. The information takes less than 2 seconds to look at.
Do I believe that Russia was lying? No, I do not. Not when you can find the information around you with the click of a mouse. Or a swipe of a screen. Is it justification for what Russia is doing in Ukraine? I would partly say so. On top of the provocation from NATO, EU and the U.S for years. The false dichotomy that you either have to support Russia or be against them is a logical fallacy.
So, when you run around shouting how much you support Ukraine. And how the United States needs to send military aid to Ukraine. Including our own troops. Remember exactly what it is you are advocating for. Keep supporting Das Reich!
